New booking conditions – Corona Virus (COVID-19) in Tanzania

The worldwide coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic unfortunately also affected Tanzania. Infection figures in Tanzania have not been published since May 2020. The country was declared free of COVID-19 by the president on July 20. Due to the lack of infrastructure and modest public health care, effective pandemic monitoring is unrealistic. A lockdown or other restrictions would mean a collapse of the livelihoods of many day laborers and small farmers.

The coronavirus has probably had little impact on the people of Tanzania for the following reasons:

  • In Tanzania, daily live takes place outside – for example, most households cook only outdoors
  • The average age of the population is ca. 18 years
  • Fewer risk patients due to high infant mortality
  • Physical fitness of the population due to the high rate of pastoralists and low mechanization

Special booking conditions due to the ongoing pandemic

Because of the current situation, Tanzania Experts offers you flexibility for all new bookings from November 1st 2020 up to and including Dezember 31st 2021. We therefore guarantee a short-term re-booking of your Safari or a refund of your deposit for all new bookings in the mentioned period. You do not need a negative corona test to enter Tanzania, only body temperature is measured at the international airports. Our Safari Guides and the team will observe hygiene and distance regulations on request.

Meanwhile many international airlines are flying to Tanzania again, the following airlines have proven to be particularly reliable during the corona crisis:

  • KLM (via Amsterdam to Kilimanjaro or Dar es Salaam)
  • Ethiopian Airlines (from Frankfurt via Addis Abbaba to Kilimanjaro or Zanzibar)
  • Qatar Airways (via Doha to Kilimanjaro or Dar es Salaam)

After the resolution of a diplomatic crisis, Kenya Airways has been flying from Nairobi to Kilimanjaro and Dar es Salaam again since September.

National parks and Safari without tourist crowds

With the ongoing Corona Virus problems, very few tourists travel to Tanzania at the moment. Many of our guides therefore report about deserted parks and flourishing nature. At the moment a safari is worthwhile itself therefore completely particularly for those, which estimate exclusivity. At the moment our safari guests find a Serengeti as it was experienced by Bernhard Grzimek in 1959 during the shooting of his famous documentary film “Serengeti must not die“.

With a safari to the national parks of Tanzania you also support the protection of species and nature. Conservation is very expensive, due to the crisis in tourism many people are unemployed and the national park administrations are heavily under-financed. Unfortunately, poaching has increased strongly in the last months. With your Safari you are therefore making an important contribution to the future of Tanzania’s unique natural paradise.

Karibu Tanzania!

The World Health Organization (WHO) has expressed concern over the government s strategy on Covid-19. On 29 April, the last day official data was released, there were 509 cases, with 21 deaths in Tanzania. However, Mr Magufuli said last week that only four patients were receiving treatment in the largest city, Dar es Salaam.
